May Lecture with Abigail Coomes

On May 15th, Travellers Rest's own Collection/Site Manager, Abigail Coomes will be speak at two events about the legacy of the Travelers Rest Arabian Stud. At noon, there will be a lunch and learn session. This session is free to attend with a suggested donation to Travellers Rest and you can bring your own lunch to enjoy while hearing from Ms. Coomes. In the evening, she will once again be discussing the Arabian Horse connections to Travelelrs Rest and at this session charcuterie and refreshments will be provided.

Abigail Coomes is the current Collection & Site manager at Travellers Rest. Her research interests are focused on Southern rural African American agriculture history, material culture/decorative arts, museum studies, digital history, and equine history. She holds degrees in history from Morehead State University and Middle Tennessee State University. Abigail is currently working on her PhD at MTSU in Public History. Her dissertation will focus on the Black trainers and grooms who worked in the Mid-South equine industry and how museums can interpret this in their exhibits and programming.
